Sycamore Valley ROSP

Short Ridge Unit

News: As of November 2014, the Shady Slope Trail is closed for repairs. It is scheduled to re-open during the Summer of 2015. Respect the closure. Trails don’t build/maintain themselves and you’re making the work of EBRPD and volunteers much harder by ignoring (or worse, destroying) the signs.

Close to I-680, this park is a great way to avoid traffic. Exit at Sycamore Valley Road and head East. Turn left on Holbrook Drive. The parking lot is sandwiched between an elementary school and ball fields. Walk past the basketball courts to begin your hike.

There is a short climb up the Sand Hill Trail to the Short Ridge Trail. Turn left at the junction to follow the trail to the Western park boundary. Continue straight at the junction to follow the Sand Hill Trail to it terminus at a gate to Sunhaven Road, a paved road through housing.

Forget Angry Birds, this bird looks mean. Maybe it’s upset I’m invading its territory?

While small, this park will let you relax and watch the traffic crawl along on I-680. Watch the sunset among the grassland and oaks. Listen to the many songbirds that frequent the area, or simply gaze admiringly at Mount Diablo.
